Update: So, before you read the rest of the info about the season, here's an update. First of all, it's NOT too late to register. We've had something strange happen due to all the rain. Parks have been closed for weeks so our coaches have not been able to practice. So, our original start date won't work without any practices. For now, we'll push it out 2 weeks which would still give us a finish time in March and give teams a fair chance to practice before we start. We still need players in every division so get your friends out there too!
Weeee're baaaack! After a long break, it's time to get back to it! Youth Flag Football is coming back for another exciting season. Kindergarten to 6th grade boys and girls are eligible to play. Teams are put together based on your zip code so your practices should be at a local park. Areas that don't have enough players for a full team will be combined. All games are played on Saturday mornings centrally in Natomas since we attract teams from all over Sacramento. Practices will begin in January with games starting February 18th. The 6 week season will end March 25 with Playoffs and Championships April 1. Each player will receive a player shirt, participation medal, flags and a mouthpiece. All teams will have at least one practice per week. If you would like to volunteer to be a coach or you currently have a team that you want to bring in to the league, please email us. Once you register, you will be contacted by your coach as soon as there are enough players in your area to practice. Returning teams are anxious to get started so don't wait to register. The quicker you register, the faster we can place your player and get them practicing. To register now, CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE YOUR REGISTRATION. See you on the field!!!
Yes, if you're looking for basketball, cheerleading or flag football, you've come to the right place! We're busily working behind the scenes to bring you an entirely new site that includes BOTH of our sports, flag football and basketball! For now, just know that you're in the right spot! Greater Sacramento Flag Football League and West Coast Athletics have decided to bring you the best of both leagues to create Greater Sacramento Youth Athletics. Now you'll be able to choose either sport and know that you'll have the great family atmosphere that you've learned to expect from us. Our basketball program will continue to embrace the values that you appreciate in our football program. Teamwork, sportsmanship and fair competition. We'll offer the same convenient practice times and locations based on your zip code. Our games will be centrally located right in Natomas just like our football games so that it's easy for all of our teams to get to. No more travelling all over town each week to a different court. All games played at the same location every week on Sundays. Boys AND girls from kindergarten through 8th grade can play either sport. We also have cheer-leading available if you'd like to try that. You don't have to have a player on a team for your child be a cheerleader. If you would like to register a cheerleader CLICK HERE TO GET THEM STARTED NOW!
If you're ready to jump into our basketball program CLICK HERE TO REGISTER NOW! Games will begin January 19th and end March 2nd. Flag football will be going on at the same time so, if you want to play football with us, click one of the links to the right to get started.
If you've ever had a brick dropped on your head, you might know what it's like to miss something so obvious! I take about 40 calls and emails per day asking the same questions about our upcoming season. So, why I haven't simply answered them here is a mystery even to me! So, here are a few of the frequently asked questions and the best answer I can give you.
How do I register? All of our registration is done on line so, if you want to register now...go back to the home page and look for the appropriate link for your sport and season. Registration is $90 unless you catch the early-bird. If you wait too late, you'll end up in late registration which will end up costing you more so don't wait.
Where are the practices and how often will they practice? This is the ONE question that I can't actually answer. Each coach will have their own practice schedule and location so, it's up to them when and where you practice. Our teams are put together based on your zip code so, all the kids in your area should end up on the same team. So, it stands to reason, your coach should pick a location that's central to everyone in the area. Most coaches practice about twice per week.
Where are the games? All of our games are played at Witter Ranch Park in Natomas (3795 Saintsbury Dr) on Saturdays for flag football. Since we have teams all over Sacramento, we picked a park that is pretty central for everyone. It's also right off the freeway so it's pretty easy to get to. Our games start at 8am and we play a game every hour on the hour until all teams have played. The amount of games depends on how many teams are registered so it varies from season to season. This season, we're trying something new with multiple games going on at the same time so make sure you check your teams schedule.
How long is the season? Our season is 7 weeks long including playoffs. We usually try to build in an extra week in case something happens so make sure you check your team schedule.
I registered but, I haven't heard from a coach yet. What's up? Don't panic! It's not entirely up to your coach to get the calls done. Sometimes they are waiting on us to give them a complete roster. We don't want anyone getting an unfair advantage by practicing too early so, we may hold their roster. Once they get close to a full team, and are allowed to start practice, we'll get them a roster. I would say that most coaches will wait until their team is full before they start calling parents so they don't have to repeat things but, that's up to each coach. You WILL be contacted.
Is there a team in my area? This is another question that I can't really answer. We are completely at the mercy of registrations. So, if your area has at least 9 kids that want to play and register, then yes, there will be a team in your area. However, if there are not enough kids in your area, we'll combine the closest zip codes to fill a team. So, in MOST cases, there are enough kids to fill a team but, occasionally, we do have to combine areas to make it work.
Can my child play on a team with his/her friends? Of course they can! This league is supposed to be fun for everyone including you. So, we honor your team requests first. That way, kids play with their friends, you know the parents already and everyone is happy. Make sure you put your request on your registration form. The only time we can't honor a request is if a team is already full when you register.
Well, I know that doesn't answer EVERY question but, that should help with the most common. If you have other questions, feel free to email or give us a call. Have a great season!
Wow! It's been a real roller coaster but, thanks to one of our fantastic parents, we're back up and running! Teresa, thank you SO much for resolving our website issue! Now, down to business!
First of all, we realize there has been some confusion this season with our game schedule. Due to some technical glitches (and some operator error, mostly MY error), our schedule has changed a couple times. Now, in the interest of making our teams more competitive, we've decided to merge the Sr. 49er's with the Sr. Steelers so, it's going to change again. Hopefully for the LAST time this season! Please check the new updated schedule above for the changes.
Believe it or not, we're headed to week 3 already. That's right, week 3! Halfway through the season and there is a LOT to go! Pictures, championships, all-star games, trophies, bounce houses, spring season, the whole nine!! So, here's what's coming up:
The Spring season will begin on April 6th and registration is now open!!! So, if you're looking for something else to do besides baseball, basketball, or soccer, then flag football (besides being the only thing left) is for you! You can CLICK HERE to register right now and take advantage of the early bird discount. Beginning this season, we are changing the age range for our divisions so that we can include kindergartners! Our new divisions will be K-2nd grade, 3-5th grade and 6-8th grade! Now, we're including the entire elementary level and not leaving our smallest future players out! All games will be finished BEFORE Memorial day so you don't have to change any plans to go out of town!
Picture day will be February 16th or 23rd(depending on your team). Your coach or team mom will give you the details so that you may prepare for pictures. Parents that played with us last season will get a special gift for returning this season. All pictures will be ready for your pickup on Championship Sunday March 10th.
Speaking of Championship Sunday, this season, we're incorporating all-star games for each division and you'll get your chance to participate too! That's right, parents will play in the games against their players! It's time for the moms to take the field! We need 15 moms and a volunteer coach to play against the Freshman division (1st-3rd grade) all-stars. Please email us if you're interested in playing. Dads, you're not excused! We also need 15 dads and a volunteer coach to play against the Jr. division all-stars (4th-6th grade). Naturally, that means the Sr. Division all-stars need some competition too. So, we've decided to make our coaches take off the whistles and strap up the cleats to play the 7th and 8th graders! These should be a lot of fun to watch and to participate in so please don't hesitate to be a part of the games. Each game will take place after each divisions prospective championship game.
We'll also have our punt, pass and run competition going on through-out the day and our inflatable obstacle course. As always, the players will receive free hot dogs that day and all trophies will be available for them to pick up as well. It's a really fun day and it's our way of ending the season with a big party! Please get involved with your team and participate in championship Sunday. Your players LOVE to see the parents play (mainly to make fun of us!) and it's a lot of fun.
